About Us
Softmax develops multi-agent reinforcement learning simulations focused on social learning scenarios. Our work explores how multiple agents can maintain individual identity while achieving coherence as a unified system—similar to multicellularity in nature.
The Role
We’re seeking a contract product designer with significant experience across web, UX, and marketing. We’re looking for a designer who can make complex systems feel simple, has worked on data and analytics platforms, and is fluent in visual design. You’ll work independently on diverse design challenges, starting with our upcoming product release.
Key Responsibilities
- Create UX flows and interfaces for data-heavy dashboards, internal tooling, and viewer-facing experiences
- Turn complex stats/analytics into clear, engaging visualizations and stories
- Design our marketing website: structure, layout, interaction patterns, and visual identity for web
- Produce high-fidelity mocks, prototypes, and handoff-ready specs for implementation
Requirements
- Strong web and product design portfolio, including marketing pages, dashboards, and analytics tools
- Comfortable working from rough ideas and iterating quickly with founders/engineers
- Ability to design for both conversion (marketing) and usability (product)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving, ambiguous, early-stage environment
Nice to Have
- Experience designing for live, competitive, or community-oriented products (e.g., sports, streaming, gaming)
- Background in data visualization or analytics tools
- Proven experience in shipping scalable design systems and brand
- Previous remote contracting experience
